To mark the 40th Anniversary of the Alton Society, we are undertaking the planting of specimen trees in key sites around the town. This has been done after careful consultation with local residents and with the full cooperation of the Town Council and the Hampshire County Council Highways Authority. Our tree adviser, Jim Dickinson, has been at the heart of the project. This is a significant expense for the Society but we hope it will be a legacy which will beautify the town for years to come.

April 2011
All the trees survived the dry months after planting, thanks to dedicated watering by Chris Chappell, Edward Hepper, and others.
What’s more, contrary to many people’s fears, there has been no vandalism at all.
Generally Alton is a very green town, but this has filled some definite gaps.
